Skinners Court

Skinners Court is an ‘extra care’ scheme in Palmers Green, North London which opened in November 2006. Extra care is different from ordinary sheltered housing schemes in that it has additional facilities, and care and support is on site 24 hours a day. The scheme provides a suitable environment for those who wish to remain independent for as long as possible but need help and support on a regular basis.

The facilities at Skinners Court include:

  • 48 one and two-bedroom flats, built to wheelchair standard, each with bedroom, living room, kitchen and a bathroom with level-entry shower, full central heating and community alarm link
  • Communal lounge and residents’ bar
  • Dining room
  • Cinema
  • Health & beauty treatment room
  • Guestroom with en-suite facilities
  • Shopping and laundry facilities
  • Wheelchair store with electric charging facility
  • Assisted bathroom

Like Percy Bilton Court, residents at Skinners Court are beneficiaries of an almshouse charity. There are other factors affecting eligibility and people who live there are likely to be:

  • Over the age of 60
  • Living in the London Borough of Enfield
  • Physically or mentally frail and eligible for Social Services help
  • Not in a position to fund their care and accommodation from their own resources.
